Trail Directions

The trail begins in Ayden, approximately 12 miles south of Greenville, at the Skylight Inn (circa 1947) founded by Walter B. (Pete) Jones; running thence in a northerly direction on NC Hwy 11 approximately 12 miles to Greenville, the home of B’s Barbecue (circa Late 1970’s) founded by William and Peggy McLawhorn; running thence in a southwestwardly direction on US Hwy 13 approximately 35 miles to Goldsboro, the home of Wilber’s Barbecue (circa 1962) founded by Wilber Shirley; running thence westwardly on US Hwy 70 Byp to the juncture of US Hwy 117 Byp; continuing south on US Hwy 117 Byp approximately 3.4 miles; exit left Arrington Bridge Rd./NC Hwy 581 and continue on Arrington Bridge Rd./NC Hwy 581 for 4 miles; turn right to stay on Arrington Bridge Rd./NC Hwy 581 and continue 3.5 miles to the intersection of Arrington Bridge Rd./NC Hwy 581 and Sleepy Creek Rd., the site of Grady’s Barbecue (circa 1986) founded by Steve and Gerri Grady; backtrack on Arrington Bridge Rd./NC Hwy 581 to US Hwy 117 Byp approximately 7.5 miles to the juncture of US Hwy 70 Byp; thence continuing north on US Hwy 117 Byp approximately 20 miles to Wilson, the home of Bill Ellis Barbecue (circa 1963) founded by Bill Ellis, also the home of (The Original) Parker’s Barbecue (circa 1946) founded by brothers Graham and Ralph Parker and a cousin Henry Parker Brewer; running thence southwestwardly on US Hwy 42 approximately 50 miles to Willow Springs, the home of Stephenson’s Barbecue (circa 1958) founded by Paul Stephenson, Jr.; running thence in a northerly direction on I-40 approximately 12 miles to the intersection of I-40 and 440 Beltline; running thence with I-40 and 440 Beltline in a westwardly direction approximately 40 miles to the Intersection of I-40 and US Hwy 86; running thence north on US Hwy 86 towards Hillsborough  approximately 1.5 miles to Allen & Son Barbecue (circa 1971) founded by Keith Allen; backtrack south on US Hwy 86 approximately 1.5 miles to I-40; running thence westwardly with I-40 approximately 18 miles to the intersection of NC Hwy 119; running thence northerly on NC Hwy 119 approximately 5 miles to Mebane, home of A&M Grill (circa 1947) founded by Charlie R. McAdams, Sr.; backtrack in a southerly direction on NC Hwy 119 approximately 5 miles to the intersection of I-40; running thence in a westwardly direction with I-40 approximately 11 miles to the intersection of NC Hwy 62; running thence in a northerly direction on NC Hwy 62 to its intersection with US Hwy 70 in Burlington, the site of Hursey’s Barbecue (circa 1960) founded by Charles Hursey; backtrack in a southerly direction on US Hwy 62 to the intersection of I-40; running thence in a westwardly direction with I-40 approximately 21 miles to Greensboro,  the home of Stamey’s Barbecue (circa 1938) founded by Warner Stamey; running thence in a northerly direction from Greensboro on US Hwy 29 approximately 20 miles to Reidsville, the home of Short Sugar’s Drive-In (circa 1949) founded by Johnny and Clyde Overby; running thence westwardly on NC Hwy 65/704 approximately 13 miles to Madison, the home of Fuzzy’s (circa 1954) founded by T.H. “Fuzzy” Nelson; running thence southwardly on US Hwy 311 approximately 25 miles to Winston-Salem, the home of Hill’s Lexington Barbecue (circa 1951) founded by Joe Allen Hill, also the home of Little Richard’s Bar-B-Que (circa 1991) founded by Richard Berrier; running thence southwardly on US Hwy 150 approximately 10 miles to Arcadia, the home of Speedy Lohr’s BBQ of Arcadia (circa 1989) founded by Roger Lohr, son of Paul “Speedy” Lohr of Lexington; running thence southwardly on US Hwy 150 approximately 10 miles to US Hwy 64; running thence eastwardly on US Hwy 64 to I-85 Byp at Lexington,  the home of Lexington Barbecue (circa 1962) founded by Wayne Monk, also the home of the The Barbecue Center, Inc. (circa 1950) founded by Sonny and Nancy Conrad; backtrack to I-85 Byp and continue in a southerly direction on I-85 approximately 18 miles to Salisbury, the home of Richard’s Bar-B-Q (circa 1935) founded by Popeye Trexler and Grant Fories also the home of Wink’s Bar-B-Que and Seafood (circa 1952) founded by “Wink” Wansler; running thence in a southerly direction on US Hwy 52 approximately 5 miles to Granite Quarry, home of M&K Barbecue & Country Cooking (circa 1990) founded by Myran and Kathy Thomas; backtrack in a northerly direction on US Hwy 52 approximately 5 miles to Salisbury, continuing out of Salisbury in a northerly direction on US Hwy 601 approximately 14 miles to Mocksville, the home of Deano’s Barbecue (circa. 1975) founded by Dean Allen; running thence in a westwardly direction on I-40 approximately 15 miles to the intersection of I-77 at Statesville, the home of Carolina Bar-B-Q (circa 1985) founded by Gene and Linda Medlin; running thence in a southerly direction on I-77 approximately 35 miles to Charlotte and the intersection of I-85; running thence in a westwardly direction with I-85 and US Hwy 74, approximately 40 miles to Shelby,  home of Bridges Barbecue Lodge (circa 1948) founded by Red Bridges and wife Lyttle “Mama B” Bridges; running thence in a westwardly direction on US Hwy 74 approximately 50 miles to Hendersonville, running thence from Hendersonville on US Hwy 64 approximately 90 miles to Murphy; running thence in a westwardly direction on US Hwy 64 from Murphy approximately 15 miles to Herb’s Pit BBQ (circa 1982) founded by Hoover “Herb” and Helen Gibson, the end of the trail.
